Kanjiras

The Bergamo Signature Series Kanjira is key-tuned using small hooks; its counterhoop ring encircles a replaceable drumhead specially developed to create a warm, dark tone with minimal overtones. The frame of the Bergamo Signature Series drum comes in a natural wood veneer finish with a slit inside that holds a set of tambourine jingles. It is 7" in diameter with a 2" depth. Comes with tuning key.

Since 1970, John Bergamo has been the coordinator of the percussion program at California Institute of the Arts. His career includes concerts with John McLaughlin's Shakti, performing in Frank Zappa's Abnuceals Emukka Orchestra, and a tour to the Soviet Union with Robert Shaw, to name only a few. John continues to be involved in contemporary music performance, studio work, and non-EuroAmerican music performance.

Incorporating many of the styles which have influenced him, John has co-founded two all-percussion groups The Repercussion Unit in 1976 with Larry Stein, Ed Mann, James Hildebrandt, Greg Johnson, Paul Anceau, and Steven "Lucky" Mosko; and The Hands On'Semble with Andrew Grueschow, Randy Gloss and Austin Wrinkle in 1997.

Remo Kanjira (Khanjira), key-tuned, 7" Antique (Item Code ET-8227-00) The traditional Indian kanjira was made using skin of the now-endangered Monitor Lizard. Remo's synthetic Skyndeep lizard-graphic drumhead is an ecological tribute to the beauty of the Monitor Lizard. For its tunable kanjira, Remo attaches its Skyndeep lizard-graphic drumhead to an Acousticon shell with a 30-degree radial bearing edge; the frame is finished with a dark stain veneer, giving the drum an elegant and traditional antique look. With its modern technologies, Remo uses proprietary materials that enable kanjira players to bend and modulate pitch exactly like the original, without being affected by changes in climate. Remo's Kanjira can be tuned easily by inserting a 5/64" hex key into a recessed key hole and rotating the key in small increments to achieve the desired low pitch. The 2 3/8" depth x 7" diameter Kanjira fits comfortably in the player's hands and features a one-inch flat jingle set to produce a dry tone with short decay.
