Classical Guitar and Lute

The complete set of Twelve Spanish Dances transcribed and arranged for guitar. The transcriptions remain true to the original piano score, but have been arranged in an idiomatic style for the guitar. The Spanish Romantic compositional style of Enrique Granados comes through in these elegant dances. The simplistic and intimate nature of the melodies make them very accessible for the guitar. These arrangements are a fresh approach to the familiar dances and an incentive to play some of the lesser known. A valuable addition to any guitar library. The edition includes a composer bio and program notes about each of the dances. Written in standard notation.

As one can easily imagine, it would be very hard for a guitar student to start reading the scores of the traditional choro repertoire, most of them with large number of technical difficulties. It would be much better if they could start with some easier pieces - of intermediate level - in order to be presented to the choro language in a more gradual and appropriate manner. That is the main goal of this book. It has 13 studies (in the 13 more commonly used keys for the choro guitar) written in a reduced form and in the principal stylistic choro variants: besides real choros, there are polkas, maxixes, Brazilian tangos and xotis. The more used and characteristic rhythmical figurations are present in each of the studies as the principal. Also aiming at the simplification of execution, all studies were composed with only two voices (melody and bass) and with no chords (although harmonies are quite evident due to the choro melodic particularities). An audio download available online contains all 13 studies.

Facsimile of original editions include Beethoven's Adelaide (op.46) and Andenken; Joseph Hayden's An Den Mond; Franz Schubert's Der Wanderer (op.4 no.1), Ungeduld (op.25 no.7), Der Liedler (op.38), Die Zurnende Diana (op.36 no.1) and Nachtstuck (op.36.no.2).

This book and accompanying audio present the most popular themes from the classical orchestral repertoire adapted for guitar. Historical background is provided for each piece, as well as warm-ups for both hands. The selections include works by Vivaldi, Handel, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Rossini, Bizet, Tchaikovsky, Grieg, Rimsky-Korsakov, Grieg and others. The material is written in tablature and standard notation.

This collection of classic guitar studies is intended for the intermediate guitarist. As a whole, these etudes emulate the content of Carcassi's famed 25 Etudes, yet in a more contemporary harmonic and rhythmic idiom. These pieces are also distinguished in that they are not only valuable as left and right-hand technical exercises- but also as valid, pleasurable concert repertoire. The first ten etudes 11-20 focus on the use of the a finger in combination with i and m. Etudes 4,7,11,13,15, and 17 also concentrate on left-hand slurs. The final five etudes were composed as - and intended to be performed- as a set with each piece dedicated to a particular Latin American composer.

Instructor, arranger, performer and songwriter Kathryn Scheldt gives you two versions of each song included: 1.) Solos for classic guitar intermediate to more advanced; including 'Torna a Surriento' (Come Back to Sorrento). 2.) Chord accompaniments for guitar; melody for voice and/or treble instruments; original Neapolitan lyrics with English translations.

New compositions for solo classic guitar by acclaimed guitarist and composer, David Pritchard. All solos are in standard notation.

'In addition to all the music I've written over the past twenty years for multiple acoustic guitars, I have on occasion felt inspired to write a smaller number of pieces for just one guitar. Exploring a meditative feel was my motivation for writing 'A Pale View,' 'A Silent Dream,' and 'Restoration.' 'A Silent Dream' can be played either as a solo piece or it can be enhanced by having another guitarist play the second part. 'Arundo' is basically a right hand study piece, alternating between two patterns both in different meters, while 'Orb Weaver' is primarily a Latin rhythm study with much syncopation, alternating simply between two chords. 'Coryza' was written with the acoustic steel string in mind using DADGAD tuning.

Celebration of the Christmas holiday includes a rich musical tradition. For this score and accompanying CD, the internationally-renowned Newman & Oltman Guitar Duo presents a ravishing collection of sacred music written for Advent, Christmas, and Epiphany. The duo has chosen music from six centuries in a wide variety of musical styles, including familiar Christmas tunes, little-known gems, and interesting variations on familiar themes written by such composers as Bach, Handel, Pachelbel, Mendelssohn, and Brahms. Selections range from beautiful Renaissance tunes suitable for beginning guitarists to concert repertoire for advanced players.

A Dozen Italian Diversions is perfect both for honing technical skills and for solo guitar performance at the intermediate level. Dedicated to his parents who took him to Italy frequently as a child to cultivate an appreciation of his heritage, the author named each piece after an important Italian site or cultural entity.
