After seven years in the U.S. Navy’s submarine service as a sonar technician, he earned a BS in journalism from Oklahoma State University in 1976 — but music never left him. Forty years after his first attempt at a music degree, he returned to his roots in 2006 with the purchase of a bass clarinet, the instrument he had played in public schools in Tulsa and in the OSU marching and concert bands. He began by transcribing cello and bass parts for his own use in the orchestra at First Baptist Church of Allen, Texas — and from there, almost on a whim, began composing original music for concert band.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHe never stopped.
