Arban's Dazzling Caprice and Variations for Cornet or Trumpet
Jean-Baptiste Arban (1825–1889) was the undisputed master of the 19th-century cornet, and his Caprice and Variations stands as one of his most brilliant and demanding showpieces. Beginning with a free-spirited caprice that displays the full range of the instrument, the work then launches into a series of increasingly virtuosic variations that test every facet of the performer's technique — from singing lyricism to lightning-fast passages and dazzling ornaments. This is a cornerstone of the cornet and trumpet repertoire, equally at home in a competition, a solo recital, or a studio recording. A must-have for any serious brass player's library.

Jean-Baptiste Arban (1825–1889) was the foremost cornet virtuoso of the 19th century and the author of the celebrated Grande Méthode Complète — still the definitive method for trumpet and cornet today. A professor at the Paris Conservatoire and a performer of legendary technique and musicality, Arban elevated the cornet to the status of a serious concert instrument. His compositions and arrangements for the instrument set the standard for brass virtuosity and remain cornerstones of the repertoire worldwide.
