About Edwin Eugene Bagley
Edwin Eugene Bagley (1857–1922) was an American composer and trombonist who spent much of his career performing with bands throughout New England. Though he composed relatively little, his National Emblem March (1906) became one of the most enduring and beloved marches in the American band canon. Its famous trio — built on a melodic fragment that echoes The Star-Spangled Banner — gives the march a patriotic resonance that has made it a perennial favorite at concerts, parades, and ceremonial events across the country.
