Ludwig van Beethoven

Beethoven's Triumphant Sacred Chorus — from Christ on the Mount of Olives

Ludwig van Beethoven (1770–1827) composed Christus am Ölberge ("Christ on the Mount of Olives"), Op. 85, in 1803 — his only oratorio. The work depicts the final hours of Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane, and its concluding Hallelujah Chorus is a jubilant, triumphant affirmation of faith that brings the oratorio to a rousing close. While less well-known than Handel's famous Hallelujah, Beethoven's chorus has its own distinctive power and grandeur, reflecting the heroic, affirmative spirit that characterizes so much of his music from this period.

This edition presents the Hallelujah Chorus in a print-ready choral score, ideal for sacred concerts, choral festivals, and holiday programs.
