Highly decorative veena with a carved and painted dragon head on the pegbox. This veena has 7 strings and 7 tuning pegs. It also has a lower and upper toomba (upper toomba is also considered a gourd) that act as resonating chambers for sound. The Saraswati veena takes its name from the four-armed Goddess of knowledge and the arts. The Goddess Saraswati is represented as sitting on a lotus and with 2 of her hands she plays the veena. The Sanskrit word sara means "essence" and swa means "self." Thus Saraswati means "the essence of the self."

54" long. Double animal heads perch atop two large carved toombas of the same size. It has 7 strings: 4 main strings and 3 chikari strings. The mythical animals will vary from instrument to instrument.

Standard sympathetic string tuning peg for a vichitra veena. Light finish. Approximately 8.5- 9 inches in length. The fit will need to be adjusted with sanding, and the excess length cut off. Pegs do not have pre-drilled holes for the string, you will need to drill a hole in the peg for the string.
