Odis Samuel (Sammy) Fontenot Jr. is a retired Louisiana state employee and lifelong musician based in Calhoun, Louisiana. He attended Northeast Louisiana University as a music major, performing horn, and went on to serve in the United States Marine Corps as a fleet bandsman, receiving an honorable discharge in December 1980. Over the course of his performing career he has played with the Monroe Symphony Orchestra, the Shreveport Symphony, the El Dorado Symphony, and the Twin Cities Community Band, and served as a performing member of the First Baptist Church worship service for thirty years. Upon retirement, Fontenot began composing original works and recording his own charts in his home studio, quickly discovering the deep satisfaction of creating original music. He has since turned to notating and arranging his compositions for orchestral forces. Music has always been his first love.
