About Robert Planquette
Robert Planquette (1848–1903) was a French composer best known for his enormously successful operetta Les cloches de Corneville (1877), which enjoyed one of the longest initial runs of any operetta in the 19th century. Beyond the stage, Planquette contributed to the French band and march tradition with works that reflect his gift for melody and his instinct for broad, crowd-pleasing themes.
