Rimsky-Korsakov’s Magnificent Easter Celebration — Arranged for Concert Band by Marc Oliver
Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov (1844–1908) composed his Russian Easter Overture, Op. 36, in 1888, drawing on themes from the Russian Orthodox liturgy to create one of the most vivid and spectacular orchestral works in the Russian repertoire. The overture opens with a solemn, ancient-sounding introduction based on Orthodox chant, then erupts into a joyful, exuberant celebration of the Resurrection — a dazzling display of orchestral color, rhythmic energy, and melodic invention that captures the spirit of the Russian Easter celebration with extraordinary vividness. It is one of Rimsky-Korsakov’s finest achievements and a masterpiece of programmatic orchestration.
This edition presents the Russian Easter Overture in a concert band arrangement by Marc Oliver. A spectacular and deeply rewarding addition to any concert program.
