Heinrich Schütz (1585–1672) was the most important German composer of the 17th century and a towering figure in the development of sacred music between the Renaissance and the Baroque. Freue dich des Weibes deiner Jugend (“Rejoice in the wife of your youth”) is a setting of a text from the Book of Proverbs, composed in Schütz’s characteristic style — expressive, text-driven, and harmonically rich.
This work offers choral ensembles and early music performers a chance to explore the extraordinary sacred music of pre-Bach Germany, in a tradition that bridges the polyphonic Renaissance and the expressive Baroque. An ideal choice for church choirs, early music ensembles, and sacred concert programs.
