Tchaikovsky - March Slave, Op. 31 arr. Marc Oliver for Concert Band
🎵 Listen Before You Buy
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Marche Slave (Slavonic March), Op. 31 (1876) is one of his most stirring and emotionally powerful orchestral works — composed as a tribute to the Serbian soldiers fighting in the Russo-Turkish War. The march opens with a brooding, folk-inspired theme that builds through increasing tension and drama to a triumphant, blazing conclusion featuring the Russian Imperial Anthem. Few pieces in the orchestral repertoire match its combination of raw emotional power and patriotic grandeur. This edition, arranged by Marc Oliver, brings Tchaikovsky’s magnificent march to the concert band with all the dramatic depth and ceremonial sweep of the original intact.

About Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840–1893) was Russia’s greatest composer and one of the towering figures of the Romantic era, celebrated for his three ballets, six symphonies, opera masterpieces, and a catalog of orchestral works of extraordinary emotional range and power. The Marche Slave (1876) was composed at the request of the Russian Musical Society as a benefit concert piece for Serbian Red Cross relief during the Serbo-Turkish War — a work of genuine patriotic feeling that draws on Serbian and Russian folk melodies to build one of the most dramatically satisfying crescendos in the orchestral repertoire.
