Bizet - Carmen Suite No. 2 , arr. Marc Oliver for Concert Band
If Carmen Suite No. 1 captures the opera’s drama and swagger, Carmen Suite No. 2 reveals its more intimate and exotic dimensions — a suite of contrasting character pieces that showcase the full range of Bizet’s orchestral imagination. From the sinuous, modal atmosphere of the Marche des contrebandiers and the haunting Habanera, to the passionate Nocturne and the electrifying Danse bohème, Suite No. 2 is in many ways the more adventurous and colorful of the two suites — a kaleidoscope of mood, rhythm, and melody that holds audiences rapt from first note to last. This custom engraving by Marc Oliver brings the full splendor of Bizet’s orchestral writing to the concert band in a performance-ready edition of exceptional scope and ambition.

About Georges Bizet
Georges Bizet (1838–1875) was a French composer of the Romantic era whose gift for melody, dramatic instinct, and orchestral color placed him among the most naturally gifted composers of his generation. Carmen, premiered at the Opéra-Comique in Paris in March 1875, was initially met with a mixed reception — but within years of Bizet’s death (just three months after the premiere) it had become one of the most performed operas in the world. The two orchestral suites drawn from its music are among the most vivid and satisfying in the entire operatic repertoire.
