About Louis Ganné
Louis Ganné (1862–1923) was a French composer, conductor, and operetta writer who enjoyed considerable success on the Parisian stage in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Though he composed in many genres, it is Marche Lorraine (1892) for which he is best remembered — a march written in honor of the Lorraine region, then under German occupation following the Franco-Prussian War. The piece became a powerful symbol of French regional pride and resilience, and it remains one of the most performed French marches in the world.
