Halvorsen’s Most Famous Work — Arranged for Concert Band by Marc Oliver
Johan Halvorsen (1864–1935) composed the Entry March of the Boyars in 1893, and it became by far his most famous and widely performed work. Originally written for piano, it has been arranged for virtually every conceivable ensemble — a testament to the irresistible energy and grandeur of its main theme. The piece evokes the ceremonial entrance of Russian boyars (medieval nobles) with a bold, striding march theme of tremendous rhythmic drive and pageantry. It is one of the great march themes of the late Romantic era, instantly recognizable and endlessly exciting.
