The Most Famous Mexican Waltz — Arranged for Concert Band by Marc Oliver
Juventino Rosas (1868–1894) composed Sobre las olas (“Over the Waves”) around 1888, and it became one of the most famous and beloved waltzes in the world. Its graceful, flowing melody and lilting waltz rhythm have made it a staple of light concert programming for well over a century, and it is often mistakenly attributed to Johann Strauss — a testament to the quality and universal appeal of Rosas’s writing. Tragically, Rosas died at just 26 years old, leaving behind only a small body of work, but Sobre las olas has ensured his immortality. This edition presents the waltz in a concert band arrangement by Marc Oliver.
