A Brooding Romantic Prelude — by Martin Tousignant

The Prelude in D Minor by Martin Tousignant is a brooding, atmospheric character piece in the tradition of the Romantic piano prelude — a form made famous by Chopin and later explored by composers from Scriabin to Rachmaninoff. D minor has long been associated in Western music with gravity, introspection, and dramatic intensity, and Tousignant's prelude inhabits this emotional world with conviction and craft. It is a compact but expressive work that rewards both performer and listener with its dark, searching character and carefully crafted harmonic language.

This edition presents the Prelude in D Minor in a print-ready score, ideal for solo recitals and programs exploring the Romantic character piece tradition.
