Ikariotikos — A Vibrant Greek Folk Dance by Eudoxia Ypsilanti
Ikariotikos is a traditional Greek folk dance originating from the island of Ikaria in the Aegean Sea — one of the most energetic and joyful dances in the Greek folk tradition. A fast, exhilarating circle dance performed at festivals and celebrations throughout Greece and the Greek diaspora, it is characterized by its driving, asymmetric rhythms and irresistible forward momentum, building in energy and speed as the dance progresses. It is a piece that never fails to electrify both performers and audiences.
This edition presents Ikariotikos as arranged and engraved by Eudoxia Ypsilanti — an Athenian composer and arranger whose deep roots in Greek musical culture and broad training at the National Conservatorium of Athens make her an ideal interpreter of this tradition. The result captures all the vitality and spirit of this beloved Greek dance in a print-ready score.
